This morning, Ross James asked me to write about Magic: the Gathering for my (second) official article here. Presumably because he’s amused by a chance to feed my addiction. And, I will quote, he would be “very excited if [I] did it about vampire corsairs.”Well, weirdly, no pirate vampires in Magic currently exist – but plenty of conquistador vampires do. So I’m going to take today and ask the question that I’m sure is burning in the minds of hundreds: why are vampires not a Thing in constructed Standard right now?

Get ready, gang, we’re going on a ride. I promise to keep my tangents to somewhere between three and five, but we’re going deep.

Sick Week: An Archer Script

So I’ve been massively sick. Double ear infection, antibiotics, the works. I haven’t been able to do anything except binge media and moan a lot.

This as opposed to my routine of reading the news and moaning a lot. Far more productive.

However! However, a small respite. I can still put something up this week. I submitted an Archer script to Nickolodeon several months ago, for their international writers program. Thousands of submissions, only one open position.

An Australian Republican

“The youngest person on that balcony with Queen Elizabeth — only two weeks old — is automatically more qualified to be the head of state of Australia than anybody in your family,” he said.

Australia is about to have another referendum on whether it should secede from the Commonwealth and become a Republic, nearly 20 years after the last time we voted on this. Last time we voted ‘no’. Mostly, I think, because nobody wanted to fix something that wasn’t broken.

Besides. The Queens lovely, and her family does all that charity, and it’s a bit of a legacy thing, you know?

But then we get to that quote, and we see what we’re really losing.
